Top 40 radio in Las Vegas has usually revolved around CBS Radio’s 98.5 KLUC. There had been a few challengers to its throne, most recently Clear Channel’s 101.9 Kiss-FM and Wild 102 in the early 21st century. Beasley Broadcasting’s “Fresh 102.7″ had been mired at the bottom of the market since its changeover from [...]

After three years of middling ratings as a Country station, Cumulus Broadcasting pulled the plug on the “Kicks 104.1″ format and began stunting with a loop of TV Themes at 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. For much its life, WXRK “92.3 K-Rock” was synonymous with Howard Stern. Stern joined the station in 1986 and it was his flagship until he left for Sirius at the end of 2005. Outside of Stern, the station’s identity was always evolving. It started out as Classic Rock, shifted to Alternative, and later Active [...]

There was no one reason that led to the demise of FM Talk on 97.1 KLSX Los Angeles after 13 years. The departure of Howard Stern to Sirius in 2005 led to the national “Free-FM” experiment bringing in a restructuring that brought in Adam Carolla. The PPM ratings system changed the way stations recorded listeners. [...]

On March 3, 2008 at 3pm, NewCap Broadcasting’s Smooth Jazz “California 103.1″ CIQX Calgary changed formats to Classic Hits as “XL103″. In accordance with Canada’s more strict licensing regulations, Newcap needed the CRTC to remove the clause in the station’s license requiring a specialty format in order to change the format.
